Black Loch - Grey Mare's Tail - Talnotry Hill - Murray's Monument
This walk circles Black Loch and visits the fifty-foot Grey Mare's Tail Waterfall and Murray's Monument. It is possible to visit any one of the three in isolation, which in each case involves only a short walk of a mile or less. The full route consists of two loops and includes the fording of two burns, some climbing and a rough path across moorland. The burns when in spate could present some difficulty, but an alternative route is available. There are fine views of Cairnsmore of Fleet (2,331ft). Look out for some quirky sculptures along the route, part of the Forestry Commission's art programme celebrating Galloway Forest Park's 50th anniversary as a park in 1997.
