A quite interesting walk with much to take your attention around the entire route, though in places care is needed not to lose the correct path from Waymark 8. There are two paths within ten metres at the top of the bank and the directions given in this route fit both almost exactly, until you reach the road. Also there are several concessionary paths not shown on the map in the area of the reservoir.
With large areas of water and woodland along the route there is plenty of opportunity for birdwatching.
The pub used on this walk is the Royal Oak in Millthorpe, a small hamlet in the Cordwell Valley. The pub reopened in December 2005 after about fourteen months of closure. This is a comfortable village pub which welcomes walkers, though covering or removing muddy boots is appreciated. Outside there are several bench-tables on the raised paved area near the lawned garden and under yew trees. When last walked they had just reopened and there was no food on offer, but they intend to offer a good-choice bar food menu at reasonable prices. They offer a couple of hand-pulled beers, with an interesting guest beer.
