This walk might well be called The Two Valleys Walk as it takes in at least part of the two main dales that drop into Ambleside. It first goes north-east along Stockghyll and then cuts across a shoulder to enter Scandale and accompany the beck north to High Sweden Bridge. At its highest the walk just touches 300m or 1000', but it is nowhere exposed and is a good bet for a day of bad weather when the higher fells are less hospitable. Having said that, High Sweden Bridge is a delightful spot to while away an hour in the summer, while the views along Windermere on the descent are fantastic.

Thanks to Mr Grindle for this enjoyable walk which I did in March 2014. Directions are easy to follow, it is very dog friendly (although there are many sheep on the return from High Sweden Bridge) and some of the views are excellent. The climb from point 12 to High Sweden Bridge is long and gradual so you don’t feel the strain.

Did this walk yesterday. Lovely walk for when the weather is not suitable to go high. Found the directions v easy to follow. The walk could be easily split into two short walks for the less energetic. It is a dog friendly walk with only one stile that was a little difficult for our small Jack Russel to negotiate.
