Athelstaneford is the birthplace of the Scottish Saltire and there is a small museum here to commemorate the flag. It's also a very pretty village.
Starting from the village, this walk takes in the ridge of the Garleton Hills which stand between the A1 (and the distant Lammermuirs) and the Lothian coast. The ridge has a long history of habitation and the walk passes two Iron Age forts and a Renaissance castle (or the ruins thereof). There are marvellous views toward the Lammermuirs and over the Lothian Coast.
