This easy circular walk begins with a gentle uphill stretch on a fairly even surfaced bridleway. You then descend into the hamlet of Dirt Pit and again ascend where there are pleasant views along the Tees Valley. A visit to High Force is well worth the small admission charge; the best time to visit the falls is after heavy rainfall, as the Tees has been regulated since the building of Cow Green Reservoir. The walk then follows the course of the Tees where there are good photo opportunities of Low Force. The last stretch of the walk is level, finally crossing the Wynch Bridge which dates from 1830.

We did this early on a Wednesday morning in late October and loved it. I adore waterfalls and this walk didn't disappoint. Clear directions. There were some cattle in afield but we walked through them without a problem but always wary. This walk takes you to both the high and low falls and lots of photo opportunities. We then had a very nice lunch at the cafe near the car park.

Four stars as two stiles to lift dogs over, thankfully ours are terriers. Good for dogs otherwise.

We decided to have another attempt at this walk. Cows with calves in that one field again but they moved off the path at the same time as a group of walkers came from the other direction so we made it through. Clear directions and only sheep the rest of the way so a thoroughly enjoyable walk with great scenery and a variety of terrains. We did not visit High Force on the way but after crossing the Holwick Head bridge we turned right and walked up to it and beyond then returned and followed the path straight back to Low Force and the Bowlees visitors centre to completed the circle. 6.75 miles.

As I have been well and truly spooked by calves and bulls in fields this summer and, after being warned of livestock on the fields on the first part,I did the last part of the walk from the visitors centre to High Force and back the same way. It is an interesting trek and my Jack Russell was fine over all the different surfaces. Lots to sniff and no stiles to be hauled over.
