After leaving the car park, the walk soon passes a picturesque lochan before gradually ascending through mature woodland. The path leads to the Muir of Dinnet Nature Reserve (an SSSI), where the woodland becomes more open with a carpet of heather at its base. After about 2.5km there is an option of shortening the walk to go directly to the Burn o' Vat, but the main walk continues onwards and eventually descends to the B9119 road.

After a very short stretch on the tarred road, the walk continues on the east side of the road through a mixture of scrub and heather. To the east can be seen glimpses of Loch Davan (a popular spot for migrating birds) and Loch Kinord. The track then leads on past the Burn o' Vat Visitor Centre.

Next the walk follows alongside a very narrow stream that leads to the vat. The vat is a large rock amphitheatre carved by fluvio-glacial activity at the end of the last Ice Age. This slight detour is well worth while. After crossing a bridge the path rises quite steeply to begin with, then winds its way more gradually upwards through the mixed woodland, before linking up with the part of the original path. A more direct route then leads back to the car park.

A nice walk, just a slight update of waymark 11.The post in the photo has been moved to the left of the track and no longer has a red arrow on it. Instead follow the blue bird/yellow Celtic knot symbols to the right, back within sight of the visitor centre.
