Chappel - Essex Way - Wakes Colne - Chalkney Wood - Chappel

We start from the railway station at Chappel (where there is also a railway museum and the possibility of steam train rides). Soon we cross beneath the magnificent viaduct which carries the single-track railway line from Marks Tey to Sudbury.
After this we follow a section of the Essex Way, with excellent views over the valley, then pass through a fruit farm to reach Chalkney Wood and take a superb track through it.
On the return leg we pass a large fishing lake, then walk parallel to the River Colne to arrive back where we started. An excellent walk with something for all the family.
