The walk is a steady climb, mainly on tracks, from the car park at Croft Castle (National Trust) to the dramatic site of Croft Ambrey Iron Age hill-fort. From the summit there are views of fourteen of the old counties (that is, before the reorganisation thirty years ago). The return also uses tracks, this time down a valley where the silted-up remains of a series of ponds show us where the Victorians created what was for them a 'Gothick' landscape. Suitable buildings and seats made a picturesque landscape which is now a haven for wildlife.

We arrived at Croft Castle on a very busy day as they were re-enacting a famous battle but parking was still not a problem. So after a tour of the castle and grounds we set off on the walk. This was well directed and offered fab views at WM9.It was a bit muddy in places even tho we hadn't had much rain.
