This walk on minor roads is an excellent alternative to field footpaths during winter months. From the charming village of Cropredy, to the medieval settlement of Appletree and then to Claydon, the route takes in beautiful rolling countryside in rural Oxfordshire.

Cropredy Bridge, where the famous battle of 1644 took place, is the first point of interest, dating back to the 12th Century and built by the Bishop of Lincoln. The village itself is a gem, full of interesting features, a regular stopping place for boats on the Oxford Canal, with good pubs, a shop and tea rooms.

The quiet roads and lanes and the very wide verges, ensure very pleasant walking conditions. A few steps extra into Claydon would be well worth the effort, for it is another extremely lovely North Oxfordshire village, with the added interest of a Bygones Museum, housed at Butlins Farm, where there is also a cafe and a shop selling unusual gift items.

Open fields and distant views are constant features on this delightful walk in the countryside.
