Frampton-On-Severn is an attractive village in the Severn Valley. It boasts Britain’s largest village green, and the walk begins by heading along the length of the green, passing several ponds along the way. From here, the route is a mix of woodland and fields, through flat countryside to Slimbridge, via Cambridge. Much of the walk is alongside water, passing several lakes and a marina, then following the River Cam.

Slimbridge is famous of course for its wildlife and wetland nature reserve. A visit here could be included within the walk with a short extension along the road. However, it is not cheap, and it is worthwhile spending the whole day there to make the most of your visit. But Slimbridge is also a village, which is worth seeing as well, and the walk passes right through the village. The route back follows the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal, which bypasses the horseshoe bend of the River Severn. You will see the river in the distance walking along here, but won’t really get close to it - despite it’s name, the river does not actually flow through Frampton-On-Severn.

There are four pubs to choose from along the course of the walk - The Bell and The Three Horseshoes in Frampton, the George Inn in Cambridge and the Tudor Arms, which sits on the canal where the walk joins it to return to Frampton.
