Gilwern - Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal - Coed Graig-Leici - Llanelli Church - Gilwern

The first part of the walk is along the towpath and is easy walking. After passing a poultry farm, where there are plans to build a marina, the route climbs steeply up an old drovers' road before continuing to contour through woodland. We then visit an earthwork before dropping down to Llanelli Church and descending, via another old drovers' road to the canal, which takes us back to the car park.

1/19/2022 - Philip Horn

A colleague and myself did this walk in July 2022. In regard to item 2 and 3, the rocky bridleway was only just passable (due to heavy growth) and once we left the minor road we were only able to follow the correct path, using a compass bearing as the path was so heavily overgrown as to be almost impassable. Indeed once we 'eventually' reached the corner (mentioned as the first item in instruction 5), we decided to use the track to return to the road and follow the road into Llanelli. Obviously we did not think the paths had been used during the Covid Lockdown of 2020, so care will need to be taken on this walk in future years.
