This walk starts at the wooded car park near the visitor centre for Glen Tanar Estate. It heads northwards away from the valley of the Tanar along paths and farm tracks. Dotted along the way are a number of stones inscribed with messages and placed there by a former laird. Fine views overlooking the River Dee are enjoyed and for a short stretch the walk goes along the bank of the Dee.

This walk shares the same starting point as Walk 1069 (Glen Tanar – Knockie Viewpoint and 5 Bridges), but also passes within half a mile from the start of Walk 840 (Loch Kinnord and Burn o' Vat). For anyone using public transport this would provide an alternative starting point.
