In 1642, England imploded into civil war. In 1645, after many years of land seizure and forcible recruitment to both King and Government, the men of the Midlands created the 'Clubmen'. Locals joined together in 'clubs' to resist further plundering. Under the leadership of Charles Nott, 1,000 clubmen signed a declaration protesting at the outrages and violence of soldiers from both sides, amongst other things.

This declaration was made on Wednesday 5th March 1645 on Woodbury Hill. Our walk will take you up Woodbury Hill, where you can read the history and full declaration on an information board and take in great views before heading on to a hill-fort. Then make your way to the clock tower, with plenty of places to stop and admire fantastic views in all directions. Finally we head up to a trig point where you can look across to the three hills you have climbed before walking more woodland down to the walk start.

Just completed this beautiful walk. Definitely a lot of steep ups and downs but well worth it for the incredible views from the top. Very clearly and accurately described. Our only issue was right at the start after leaving the lay by. We followed the left signed path and kept to the left of the large tree as directed but couldn’t at first find the first stile as it was so overgrown. After this initial set back the rest of the route was very good. I can highly recommend it. March 2022.

The hotel is now shut and is being converted into apartments. There is a small lay-by at the start of the walk that can take 2-3 cars. Great walk brilliant views of the Malvern hills, surrounding hills and the clock tower

Excellent compact but demanding walk. Quite a lot of walking in tree cover - nice and cool on a warm summers day and still allows for many fine views.

Lovely walk with great views, but probably better in spring or summer. Beware - there are three ascents, so the height gain is much more than 17 metres!
