Walking in Flintshire classically means walking in the Clwydian Hills. In consequence, other corners of this small but very varied county are overlooked. This walk explores the valley of Nant-y-Fflint, a 'V-shaped valley' with wonderful woods and superb ground flora. At the right time of year, you don't need to be a botanist to be overwhelmed by the wildflowers - you may find yourself ankle-deep in ramsons (wild garlic) or waist-deep in cow-parsley. There are also plenty of unhybridised British bluebells. Some of the paths are not much used, so you may find short stretches overgrown.

Early in the walk a short detour will take you to the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Halkyn, a fine example of a church designed by the Cheshire architect John Douglas. Further notes on this are in the additional information section.
The route also passes earthworks associated with Wat's Dyke. Notes on this are also in the additional information section.
