This fairly short walk of about four miles starts off in the picturesque Broadland village of Irstead. From the public staithe it follows very quiet country lanes south to the hidden gem of Alderfen Broad. With its diverse range of wildlife ranging from otters to marsh harriers, there is plenty to see as you walk around the reserve (the general photo for the walk was taken at Alderfen Broad from the viewing platform).

After leaving the reserve the walk takes a quiet route north and then east along open farmlands to the Irstead Boardwalk and Barton Broad Nature Reserve. It follows several hundred metres of boardwalk down to a viewing platform for Barton Broad, which is the second largest broad in the National Park.

After admiring the views and wildlife of this special place, the route uses more of the boardwalk to join a quiet country lane, which you then follow back past the church and to the staithe.
