This all-day walk begins and ends at a parking area on the side of Rouncil Lane, just south-west of Kenilworth. As the title suggests it's a mixed bag of scenery and a figure-of-eight, so if you're just getting into walking and find the distance a bit much, it's perfectly possible to split it into two.

From the parking area the walk takes a really well-walked path around Leek Wooton Country Park. Leaving the park, it takes you to All Saints Church at Leek Wooton. Returning to the Country Park we walk through an area of large fir-trees and around the perimeter of the Warwickshire Golf & Country Club. For trig-baggers, the route passes one in excellent condition on Backlow Hill.

Now we head through meadows to Middle Woodloes, along the length of Woodloes Lane to head for the pub, The Saxon Mill, with the best views of Guy's Cliffe. Cross the weir following a river, passing Guy's Cliffe to enter Warwick from the east. After a short walk up the A445 we drop onto the canal; this is an industrial section with boat repairs.

After approximately a mile the walk cuts through a housing estate to go under the A46 back past Woodloes along the Centenary Way, through a bluebell wood on the left of the Country Park and golf club, back to the walk start.

The first play area mentioned in 7 has been removed. As you come down the steps into the dip then turn right up the path behind the houses.

Although we saw notices about livestock, we did not meet any on the walk so very dog friendly. In fact she only had to be on lead on the two stretches involving road walking. Some lovely stretches of walk, particularly the first to Middle Woodloes and the canal stretch. Incredibly muddy and slippery towards the end. One stretch has you on a very enclosed path and there is no way to avoid slipping so be careful if it has rained and take a stick! Due to these conditions it took us about 5.25 hours but would definitely do it again.

This is the first WalkingWorld walk I have done and the directions were excellent. A couple of points: The 'first play area' that is mentioned is now no more than the bark chippings - in a couple of years, all will be gone. For dog walkers, it would be helpful to know about the weed-covered stagnant ponds on your right after entering the woods after the pylon - some dogs off leads might think they can walk on them!

I did this walk today (24th November 2013) leading a party of fifteen members of Hinckley Ramblers (ages 50-80). Everyone enjoyed the day; although there were a few very muddy spots, the footpaths were generally pretty good and easy to follow. The staff at the Saxon Mill made us very welcome when we stopped for our lunch break and some of our group met the 'Coronation Street' actor Craig Charles (Lloyd) there. The only downside was that in order to arrive at the pub at a reasonable time it was necessary to do the walk in reverse, meaning I can't really comment on the directions. All in all, a good day out though.
