Lewes High Street contains much of interest (see Walk 755). From there walk through some pleasing parkland and out of Lewes along the meandering Ouse River. Then, after some conservationist wetlands, it's up past the Blacksmith's Arms to some typical open chalk hills and open fields. You pass by the Lewes Racecourse stables and the site of the Battle of Lewes, where Magna Carta was finally enforced.

We really enjoyed this walk. Its an easy route and dog friendly. It has so much to offer: walking by the river, a bit of cardio exercise climbing up the Downs, fantastic views over the Ouse flood plain and Lewes, history seeing the Battle of Lewes site and where the right of parliament was born. And to finish off a stroll through historic Lewes with numerous places for lunch, and a stop at Harveys brewery for some take away beer. We told you it had loads to offer!

Yes, a nice walk, though we walked after a rainy week and most of the route was very muddy and slippery underfoot. Excellent views of Lewes.

Didn't get lost once, very good directions. View from plateau beautiful. Will do other walks in this area.
