Ochil Hills: Dollar Glen

The walk starts and finishes in Dollar, a small town at the southern edge of the Ochil Hills. The route rises through the western side of Dollar Glen, a deep, tree-filled gorge with waterfalls and mossy rocks. The glen is home to the spectacular, fifteenth century Castle Campbell which can be visited for a small charge. Beyond the castle the route levels out and passes through a coniferous forest and on to open moorland. At the far point of the walk you have a view down to Glen Devon. The return route bypasses the forest and crosses the outward route before descending to Dollar by the eastern side of the glen.

Just to let everyone know, the route through the forest between 10 and 12 is now open again. All the trees are now gone at this point, but this lets you see the wonderful views. The walking through the clear felled forest is good, the path hasn't been turned into a river of mud which sometimes happens when this kind of work is carried out. So enjoy the walk.

Still a lovely walk. However, the woodland section at points 10 and 11 is now being felled and is currently closed to the public; you must now skirt the woodland wall, taking the same route out and back. It is quite boggy through so add on another 15 mins - good boots and gaters also help. We actually carried on to the reservoir (the least boggy part of the whole walk) which I would recommend just for the visuals. We also popped into the The King's Seat pub once we were back in Dollar for a nice beer. :)
