A long and pleasant walk from Nottingham's busy city centre along the canal towpath, through a city park and the university campus to the deer-park of Wollaton Hall.
From the city centre, starting at Old Market Square, you pass by Nottingham Castle and there's the opportunity to drop in at Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem Inn.
The walk includes a stretch of nearly two miles along the Beeston Canal, an area of relative quiet very near the city centre. The University Park has a lake where you can watch swans, geese and other waterfowl, plus meet some very curious squirrels.
Wollaton Hall recently reopened after extensive refurbishment. You are likely to see deer in the park. Note that the park is open from 8am (9am at weekends) to around 7pm. The Hall (11am to 5pm) is home to the city's Natural History Museum. The Courtyard Stables house the Industrial Museum, Steam Engine House, Wollaton Visitor Centre and Yard Gallery, an exhibition space. Entrance is free.
You walk back to the city centre via streets of Victorian terraces and prestigious residential area known as The Park.
