Orford - Rivers Ore and Butley - Gedgrave - Orford

This is a free sample walk but you need to log in as a member of Walkingworld to access the details. Join or log in above if you are already a member.

On this walk you experience the vastness of the sky and seascapes of East Anglia. There are superb views of Orford Ness and Havergate Island across the River Ore. You also walk a section of the River Butley and there are some good farm paths too. You pass the medieval castle at Orford and the church, which has associations with Benjamin Britten. More farmland and then a final section of riverbank bring you back to your start point on the quay. This walk complements our other walk from Orford, Walk 577.

More information about the town and its surroundings can be found in the notes for that walk.

23/05/18 An excellent walk which takes you out into the vast expanse of marshland lying south of Orford. The section from Tide Gauge to the Ferry is not marked on the OS map as a footpath but in practice it is a footpath on top of the elevated riverbank. Suggest that a marker (2a?) is added where the walk reaches Tide Gauge to say: "At this junction ignore the marked footpath to the right which crosses the adjoining field, instead continuing straight on following the footpath on top of the river bank which gradually curves round until reaching marker point 3."
