Pickering - Blandsby Park - Farwath Hill Top - Haugh Howl - Pickering

There is a good chance that you will see a steam locomotive on this walk. The North York Moors Heritage Railway terminates at Pickering and the walk starts adjacent to the station platform. If steam engines are not seen there they will certainly be heard as we climb up alongside and above the railway line for several miles. We pass some old forgotten limekilns and on the public right of way walk through a sculptor's garden with examples of his work on view outside, before we reach the hamlet of Newbridge.

It is here we enter the National Park. Once we have passed the highest point at Farwath Hill Top we go into Haugh Wood and then down the deep valley of Haugh Howl, eventually skirting an MoD-approved rifle range run by the local shooting club. Newbridge Quarry comes next and walkers have been accommodated on a path which takes us away from any traffic. The road into the quarry can be busy on weekdays. Finally, we enter the woodland to the rear of the Pickering Castle walls which brings us to the front of the castle, where we then head back into Pickering. The town has several good tea rooms, cafes and pubs.

Thank you Robert for your observations. I have clarified the route instructions for Waymark 7 and updated the instructions for Waymark 10 where two extra gates have been installed on that section of the walk.

We could not find our way at Waymark 7 - can you give better instruction please?
