Starting from the quayside in historic Portreath, the walk takes us up to join the coastal path. We now have around five kilometres of beautiful walking, although there are two difficult steep stepped descents and ascents. Just before Porthtowan we pass through the interesting remains of Wheal Tye tin mine before descending to welcoming Porthtowan with The Unicorn pub. We retrace our footsteps a little before leaving the coastal path to wander through timeless Cornwall countryside following very narrow and quiet country lanes. A steep descent brings us to the track of the former Devoran to Portreath railway, now a cycle track and we simply follow this signed and easy wooded way back to Portreath.
