Part of the Irwell Sculpture Trail, this short section cuts through farming country whilst following at a comfortable distance part of the Manchester to Bury GMPTE tram system. These frequent trams will be clearly visible as you stroll along the canal towpath from the tram station in Radcliffe to the steel and glass modernity of Bury's own tram station. This walk is often used by birdwatchers for the sight of heron and hawk. Transport buffs can safely and legally get to within three or four yards of passing trams. As you walk this trail, views of the Peel Tower that stands 128 feet high on Holcombe Hill should appear to your left in the distance. To your right you will be able to see Scout Moor with its whirling electric wind generators. These two views however will move across your field of view, reflecting the winding route the canal takes as it bends and twists across the countryside.
