Walk begins from Rufford Village which has refreshment options and makes its way to Mere Sands Nature Reserve. The reserve consists of woodland which contains lakes and associated hides to spot wildlife from. The reserve has a visitor centre with cafe, shop and leaflets describing pathways and wildlife on the site. Allow time to explore the reserve, as it is worth a visit in its own right. Having spotted the wildlife the route follows a dyke from the reserve to the Leeds - Liverpool Canal and along its towpath via Rufford Marina. Upon leaving the canal the route makes its way ober footpaths back to start.
