The coastal section of this walk from Soar Mill Cove back via Bolt Head to Salcombe South Sands is absolutely stunning on a good day, with some of the best coastal and estuary views on offer along the whole of the South West Way. The walk starts from the lovely North Sands Beach, up a steep hill and then a section of walking through woodland. You leave the wood and some quiet road-walking follows, down through the hamlet of Combe and then a steep pull up to Higher Rew Farm. From there the climb continues through fields up to a high point of the walk at over 400ft. You then descend again, passing Soar and Soar Mill Hotel before coming to NT land for the descent to the picturesque Soar Mill Cove, where in summer, the chance of a swim is on offer. From the cove there is a steep section of uphill coastal climbing to reach the top of the cliffs, again at about 400ft in height. From there the coast undulates for an easy walk back, to descend towards the majestic Bolt Head, where the views are quite outstanding.

Beyond the headland, the coastal path drops down to just above Starehole Bay, before swinging out around and under the very rocky Sharp Tor headland. As you turn to face the estuary of Salcombe beyond Sharp Tor you have a wondrous scene to behold, with many many boats in the summer season.

The going becomes quite easy as you make your way back towards Salcombe and the South Sands Beach, which also has a passenger ferry link back to the centre of Salcombe. The final section of this splendid walk is along a narrow link roadĀ up and over a mini-headland before descending to North Sands and the end of the walk. A lovely walk indeed and along a coastal area which attracts many walkers during the summer season, Enjoy!! I have, every time I've walked it.

Mr Reed seems to have confused the start/end point. The walks starts and ends at North Sands, not at South Sands as he suggests. There is a gentle descent in from Starehole Bay back to South Sands followed by an up and over to get back to the car park at North Sands on this walk.

I think this is best done in reverse to your description then the hardest part of the walk is done first, ending with a gentle descent to south sands.
