Severn Valley Country Park - Hampton Loade - Alveley - Severn Valley Country Park

This circular walk starts at the Severn Valley Country Park Visitors' Centre, where there are parking, tea room and toilets available.

Following the River Severn upstream to the pretty village of Hampton Loade, the walk then goes over farmland and past the Butter Cross. This is a plain stone shaft about five feet high on a circular base with round head and it may be where butter and other commodities were left for the villagers to collect during time of plague.

After Waymark 9 the track gets quite narrow and steep for about 100 yards and does get very muddy, so you may want to consider recent weather conditions. However, you can stay on the road rather than turning at Waymark 7 and you will come to Waymark 10.

Finally, the walk goes through the village of Alveley before descending a hill back to the vsitors' centre.

Nice easy walk along the river to Hampton Loade and back on quiet lanes and footpaths. Alveley is a lovely village and offers the chance to visit Shropshire's oldest pub. Car Parking £2.20 for all day in 2018. Thanks for the walk. Some photos at our blog - http://mappiman.blogspot.com/2018/08/250818-severn-valley-country-park.html

Did this walk on 17th June 2017. It is a beautiful walk and we will probably do it again sometime. The scenery is amazing and nice views of the river. Nice having a cafe at the beginning and end and pub half way round. We did it when it was 28C and there was a couple of tough hills in the heat. The point that Adrian Mabe talked about is still muddy but can be avoided by climbing the bank to the right and following the fence into the field. The worse part is the final track after instruction 11 that leads into the country park. It is very overgrown in places with nettles but this did not stop us really enjoying this walk. Thank you

Enjoyed this walk on 25 January. The section between 9 and 10 is very muddy in parts and there is one section where the track goes downhill with high banks on both sides so it is impossible to avoid the mud. It is possible to easily avoid this section by going along the road from 7 to 10.
