Snead Common - Abberley Village and Clock Tower

The walk starts at Snead Common, offering wide, sweeping views of Worcestershire, with Abberley Hill in the background. A short and moderate climb offers more views and this is followed by a descent to the charming village of Abberley and its Norman church. A steep but short climb takes you up onto Abberley Hill and then on past the famous clock tower and glimpses of farmed deer in the fields below. A path along open fields and then a rural track ends in quiet woodlands and a short walk up to the main road and the excellent Bell Inn at Pensax for refreshment.

Walked this on a cool July day. Most of the stiles are in a poor state and particularly at point 11 Rodgelands where the land owners have dumped conifer branches to try and block access. That said stunning views, plenty of interest and the Norman church at point 15 is well worth a look. Plenty of up and down too. Really enjoyed it.

We did this walk 26th March 2022. Started at point 15 from the Manor Arms in Abberley, the first part to the New Inn. Point 1 was lovely. Down hill from there as the next 8 stiles were not dog friendly. We had to lift our dog over every stile. Seems the farmers have done their best to make it dog unfriendly. Luckily our cockerpoo is only 16 kikos. We would recommended starting at point 15 to the New Inn & turn around back to manor Arms Inn.

Fantastic walk we did yesterday afternoon. The third stile is broken though so would be a struggle for a less than fit person to get over.

Great pictures on your site, Ian, and I agree with you about The Bell: it's our favourite. The helpful landlord will allow a customer to sample the real ales they are considering from what is on offer before ordering. Very welcome after a walk. The food is good, too. Glad you enjoyed the walk.

What's not to like - a walk that starts at an award winning camera pub and has fantastic views in all directions. Pay attention at point 11 - the bungalow drive is a right of way but has no sign to confirm. There are a lot of stiles but my 10 year old Labradoodle could manage all of them unaided, apart from two.
