The walk uses Offa's Dyke Trail for a mile or so, before leaving it to follow a narrow lane and then a short stretch of main road, up to the Ponderosa Cafe. From here a bridleway contours the hillside, before a descent past a number of now deserted farms to Eglwyseg Glen. Wooded tracks lead to the foot of Castell Dinas Bran. The tired walker now has to make the ascent of the castle hill, but it ends at the most romantic of ruins with superb views in all directions, in particular of Llantysilio Mountain, Eglwyseg Rocks and the Vale of Llangollen. It is to the last that the walk now goes, with a direct descent to the River Dee and the town.

7/7/2014 - Norman Brannick

Completed this walk 7th July 2014. What a fantastic walk this turned out to be, plenty of photo opportunities from Clwydian way of the welsh countryside, forests, hills, villages and historic castle. Jim Grindle's directions were spot on. It was strenuous and the last climb of the day up to the castle was hard but well worth the effort, because the views were fabulous. Well done Walking World for another great day's walking. If anyone wants a good workout and is fit enough to undertake it, I would have no hesitation in recommending this walk..
