Beginning at the Boat Inn at Thrupp, the route takes the canal towpath to another pub just a short distance away, then swings over a bridge towards the tall steepled church of Kidlington seen across the fields. From here a footpath takes pleasant meadows and a large copse, passing the interesting residence of Richard Branson, one of Kidlington's most successful entrepreneurs. Streets through the large and busy Kidlington are then walked on the way to the Oxford Canal. Pleasant canalside dwellings are passed where ducks,geese and swans swim in harmony, on the look-out for any titbits from their human neighbours. Once past Kidlington Green Lock, the canal becomes more rural for a while, then at King's Canal-Bridge the busy A44 is followed on a wide pavement to reach the Turnpike Inn. Green Lane, leafy and shady crosses the railway and eventually meets the canal again. Here, modern-day housing crowds the canalside, often ignoring the enhancing possibilities in the concentrated building mass that has sprung up in recent years. Past Roundham Lock, industrial buildings line the canal route and the rows of residential boats further on make a welcome scene, the boaters creating an attractive area of a user friendly community. The last leg retraces the steps of the outward journey past two attractive and inviting pubs, the Jolly Boatman and the Boat Inn.
