This is a circular walk ideal for those of you that like to walk the coastal footpath but don't want to walk back the same way. It will take you through the fields and lanes just inland of the coastal but so very different villages of Thurlestone and Hope Cove (and past two great pubs). You will skirt around a golf course, passing on your way some spectacular coastal scenery, a nature reserve, thatched cottages and lovely beaches. Ice creams, food, drinks and toilets can be found in abundance once you reach the coastal footpath. Parking is also plentiful but in the height of the summer with all the visitors, some car parks will be full and there may be some residents-only restrictions. However, if you can't find any parking in and around the village of Thurlestone where we start from, this being a circular walk you can park at either Hope Cove or the National Trust car park at South Milton Sands (Point 14) or the little privately run car park next to what was once the Links Hotel (Point 15).

Birdwatchers, remember to take your binoculars as peregrines have often been seen on the cliff below the golf course.

I’m not sure how much coastal erosion has added to the walk, but I clocked 8 miles not the 5 stated in the summary. Good job I’d allowed plenty of time! It is a really enjoyable walk with fantastic coastal views, even from the inland sections. Route finding is easy and with pubs at Thurlestone and Hope and ice cream at Inner Hope. What better way to spend a hot August Sunday!

The coast path has reopened just follow the new waymarkers and finger posts from Hope Cove back to Thurlestone.

The council have made a new footpath so from Hope Cove start as explained but then follow all the short diversions and you will soon reach the bridge over the creek and and then the golf course. You need to allow about 3 hours for the walk although stopping at the very nice pub in HopeCove will add a bit.

It’s been 4 years since I last did this walk and it seems costal erosion has set in. As of March 15 2016 waymark 1 no longer has a signpost to Whitlocksworthy. Waymark 9.The reference to Avoid Hope Cove and the collapsed coast path doesn’t seem to make sense as it now directs you to waymark 14 where then issue is! I would suggest removing this reference completly and continue on to waymark 10 etc Waymark 14.At the moment you cannot take the coast path up the hill past the cannon due to erosion. But as I had a beer sat outside the Hope and Anchor they poured 10 tonne of concrete for repairs,so I guess sometime in the next few months this should re-open.In the interim follow the road out of Hope until you come to ‘Green Banks’ on your left in about 200mts.Take the marked footpath to the left and this brings you back to the coast path.
