Wotton is built around the slopes of a deep valley which cuts into the Cotswold Edge. The heavily wooded Edge rises above the town and seems to surround it on most sides. The walk takes you into two steep-sided valleys: Tyley Bottom which starts from Wotton and Ozleworth Bottom, where the walk heads through Ozleworth Park, a privately owned estate with public rights of way running through it. There are two steep climbs and descents as the walk climbs over the edge and back again, as it switches from one valley to the other. Newark Park is passed towards the end of the walk, a former Tudor hunting lodge converted to a fashionable Georgian house, perched upon a 40ft cliff, which is now owned by the National Trust.

Did this walk 20/08/20. Some of the signposts and marker posts are now missing especially the right turn out of Tyley Bottom up the hill, no marker post half way up and gate is hidden from view from bottom of valley.

Lovely walk! Did it today on a glorious warm spring day and we thought it was excellent, with lots of varied countryside, beautiful buildings, views and plenty of height changes for interest. We heard a skylark and a woodpecker too. Think it took around 3 hours at a good pace but with a lunchbreak. I wondered why the walk doesn't suggest going through the National Trust property grounds (when it's open) as this would not seem to be much of a diversion and it would be interesting to see the house.

I did this walk with my partner and the family pooch on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, infact it was Rememberance Sunday which made it all the much better as when in Wotton under Edge we had the British Legion Parade past us. The weather was lovely, although it had really chucked it down the night before and there was plenty of mud about. Nothing to worry about though if you have some good boots! The walk took us 3hrs 25mins including breaks. A brilliant hilly walk with bundles to see on the way, wildlife galore! My only update for navigation for the route is - Waypoint 12 - The waymark post has been ripped out of the ground. Whilst I did notice it, it may not be obvious to the next person following this walk as it was lying in long grass. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. I also GPS tracked this walk.
