Kirkby Stephen Walkers are Welcome
Kirkby Stephen has become the first town in Cumbria to gain 'Walkers are Welcome' status. 'Walkers are Welcome' is a national scheme in which communities commit to improving facilities and services for walkers.
Kirkby Stephen is a great base for walking in the Northern Pennines, the Howgills and the northern edges of the Yorkshire Dales. There are also lovely walks in the Eden Valley itself, including on the rare limestone pavements which are a haven for wild flowers and birds.
To find out more about the attractions of Kirkby Stephen as a base for your next walking break, click the website link or ring the Tourist Information Centre.
Kirkby Stephen is the home town of Walkingworld's David and Chris Stewart and in fact we look after the Kirkby Stephen Walkers are Welcome website (www.walkeden.org). If you want any advice about visiting the Kirkby Stephen area please contact us through the Walkingworld contact form.
We would also appreciate any ideas for improving the Walkeden website.
