Birchley Heath - Hartshill Hayes Country Park - The Atherstone Ridge - Birchley Heath

The walk takes you from the small village of Birchley Heath in North Warwickshire, through fields dotted with ancient woodland to Hartshill Hayes Country Park, which offers panoramic views across four counties on a clear day. From Hartshill you descend the Atherstone Ridge and follow the course of the Coventry Canal, before gently climbing through fields and woodland back to your start point.

We just tried this walk today There are a few simple issues - such as the diamond shaped brick built seat mentioned in the woods is now a triangular pressed concrete job, but many times - especially with regard to the golf course- the instructions are vague and confusing. We gave up, and hiked back along the road instead. Disappointing, as usually the instructions are so clear.

Completed walk yesterday (19/02/17), a lovely varied walk with great views however the instructions are quite out of date - did not go over a single stile as all have been changed to gates. Encountered some difficulty matching directions 6 & 7 with the landscape/scenery, fortunately was able to use Viewranger to locate the correct path and the entrance to Hartshill Hayes. The field toward the end is steep, it is also heavily used by cattle and so the ground all over the field was very churned up, making it a bit more difficult.

A beautiful walk. Very varied with woods, water, and lovely countryside with magnificent views. Bit of a sting in the tail after going across the golf course at ref. 15. The field is a bit steep. The walk can be shortened a bit at the end by crossing the road at the bottom of Purley Chase Lane and going through the gate in the opposite hedge,to follow the path back to Birchley Heath.
