A walk of amazing variations, both in places encountered and in the near and far views. Stroll through neglected gardens and climb Rivington Pike, used to warn off the Spanish Armada. A quiet return on the banks of the reservoir encounters a replica of Liverpool Castle.

Completed this walk 18th June 2014. Directions & map were clear and precise, spent quite a bit of time exploring the Terraced Gardens before moving on up to pigeon tower and Rivington Pike. I would recommend the addition of Tiger Clough and it's small waterfall, this can be accessed between WM 7 & 8. As you descend from WM 6 at the bottom of the hill cross the cattle grid, look for a stile on your left (if you pass this there is another one on the left opposite a small disused quarry) descend to Devils Steps, across the wooden footbridge and take the path in front of you, go uphill, as you approach the top and before the road take a right which takes you down to the stream follow the stream downhill (be careful can be a bit wet underfoot) eventually coming to Tiger Clough waterfall. Retrace your steps back to where you started and pick up WM 8. The replica castle added a nice touch so too did Hollinshead Hall & Rivington Village. Great walk, highly recommended..

My wife and I found this to be a very good walk. There is plenty to see and the views are fantastic. Do this walk on a clear day if possible and you will not be disappointed with the views. We did this walk on Good Friday and the place and surrounding roads were packed. There where bouncy castles, burger vans etc near WM7 and even a fun house, great for the kids. We ended up parking on Georges Road and started the walk at WM7, but this wasn't a problem. Only downside was irresponsible dog owners who let thier dogs off the lead and chase the sheep. Would recommend this walk and we had no problem with the directions at all!

An excellent walk with good instructions - though I did do as suggested and parked off the road which joins WM 13 and WM14. This omitted the section of the walk between WM1 and WM2 which is where the stiles referred to in the previous comment appear to be. The terraced gardens are well worth exploring as suggested in the guide - they were great in the autumn colours this week. The views are very good and the last section around the reservoir is also quite a suprise with not only the Mock Castle, but also an high wire adventure zone at the North end. The walk can also be easily extended by walking around the upper reservoir (though United Utilities are improving part of this path so may be closed until the spring) The one suggestion to add to the instructions would be to add a WM at the left turn half way between WM 8 and WM9. It is much further down the broad path than I first thought from reading the guide.

We found this walk in a book published in 2003, so went to the website and paid for the print out of directions, which we thought would be more up to date. We really struggled and gave up half way around! we found that many of the stiles we were looking for had been changed to kissing gates, and when it said follow paths we found there were loads we could have chosen, which resulted in us getting very confused and taking lots of wrong turns. We are not seasoned walkers, but can usually follow a set of instructions without too many problems, but this time we just gave up - even the photos were not helpful. Sorry! the other 2 reviewers seem to have managed ok!

Agree with Andrew regarding dog friendly. Would agree that starting and finishing at waymark 13 is a very good idea. Plenty of free parking at 13 and the drive up to 14.

Really enjoyable and invigorating walk. My collie Meg was off her lead pretty much all of the way, which is my idea of the perfect day out. Highly recommend it.
