The walk starts downhill but soon begins to climb. There is quite a stiff climb up to Twyn-yr-allt (343 metres) but the walk is up through ancient oak-woods, well-filled with birds and shady and sheltered in hot weather. The walk along the ridge of the Deri is peaceful and easy, turf underfoot and views in all directions. The final ascent of the Sugar Loaf is demanding, but easily manageable and worth the effort! From there it is downhill, taxing at first but more gentle after the first stile.

Completed this on 28/09/02. Excellent walk nice and straight forward for experienced walkers. For inexperienced walkers route finding at the start in the woods might be a little difficult (just keep going up!) and across the Deri just stay at the highest point of the ridge until you reach the fence.
