Danbury and Lingwood Commons - Little Baddow - River Chelmer - Scrub Wood - Pheasanthouse Wood - Danbury

After leaving the convenient little car park, you immediately enter Lingwood and Danbury Commons (NT), which you cross in a north-westerly direction. Like most of the route, this section is a delight. After more tracks and short sections of lane, you arrive at Little Baddow and pass the hall and church. A field-path then leads you down to the River Chelmer. A delightful stroll beside the river, passing picturesque Paper Mill Lock, is followed by more field-paths. You then pass beside Scrub Wood and reach Pheasanthouse Wood. The track through here is again a great pleasure (on the day we prepared the walk a superb fox crossed the track in quite leisurely fashion a few yards in front of us) and all too soon you find yourself back at your start point.

A nice walk but I had to take a detour between parts 5 and 6,the path is blocked by stinging nettles

A lovely undulating walk with some good view, which we did a week or so ago. But from point 4 to 5 the path is very overgrown with stinging nettles some head height and brambles. At the end of point 5 there is a very unfriendly dog gate. It's ok if you have a small dog but not if you have to lift 2 big golden retrievers over it.

Interesting walk on good paths and bridleways. Really lovely along by the river. There are a couple of footpaths closed/re-routed at point 4, through Little Baddow Hall Farm. These are well marked, just gets you onto the road a bit earlier. Apart from that the guide details are fine.

Just to say an enjoyable day out last weekend. Clear directions and interesting walk. A good walk for a family although some problems getting our greyhound through all the stiles as there was not an alternative for all of them. Possibly would try it the other way round another time as views may be better coming down to the Chelmer.

05/08/09 went on this walk again, it was a very humid day, we really enjoyed this walk last time, and did this time as well, moderate for Essex ha.

New off road ramblers. Dave & Jeni, went on a very hot, bank holiday Monday, really nice start by going through woods, really beautiful walk all round, especially, along part of the river Chelmer.

Sunday 19 June 05. Thank you for a good and picturesque walk. One comment is that your waymarks are correct but horizontal gridlines on the map are incorrectly labelled. Going north along the western edge of the map they should read 05, 06, 07 etc. I discovered this in trying to plot the 10 digit waymarks using the map and they were miles away. Dennis
