The climbing is demanding, but is over quite soon, leaving you with a lovely ridge walk along the Skirrid to the remains of St Michael's Chapel and the trig point. Return is by way of a walk round the head and through the mixed woodland, which is very rich in flowers and birdlife, as well as moss-covered stones and tree-trunks.
