From the main line railway station, we step out along Steppy Lane, then along the banks of the River Aln, passing under a viaduct to reach Bilton Mill. Here we cross fields and pass through woodland to the hamlet of Spylaw, with good views all round. Along the farm road we reach Bilton Barns, where holiday cottages provide part of the farmer's income. Further fields are crossed to reach Wooden Farm, with views over Almouth Bay before we return to the station, passing under the line as we approach.
