After a short stretch in woodland, the path reaches open country and to the north, open views of the Coed y Brenin Forest appear. Turning south-west, the path runs high above the River Mawddach. The ground drops steeply into the valley so that young children will need to be well-supervised, but there are no sheer drops. The path is good, but occasionally rocky.
At the end of this section, views open out, first to the sea at Barmouth and then over Dolgellau to the northern flanks of the Cader Idris range, almost certainly one of the most beautiful panoramas in Wales. Finally one returns following the banks of Llyn Cynwch until retracing the final few hundred yards to the car park.
