Amersham on the Hill - Old Amersham - Little Missenden - Old Amersham
The walk crosses the beautiful Misbourne Valley, passing through beechwoods at the start, which open to a remarkable view of fascinating Old Amersham, full of historical and architectural interest. To the west of Amersham is the Shardeloes Estate, with the house designed by Robert Adam in 1758 for the Drake family but which is now divided into flats. The grounds were laid out by Repton, who created Shardeloes Lake, home to a wide variety of waterfowl. The walk explores the Shardeloes Estate using an ancient green lane which leads down into the idyllic village of Little Missenden, with its medieval church containing 13th Century wall paintings and its 16th Century manor-house. The Red Lion pub and The Crown are well worth a pause; both have gardens and are child-friendly. The walk is appealing at all times of year and offers a wide range of interesting features.
