This circular walk takes in an impressive section of Hadrian's Wall, from Housesteads along the crags past Crag Lough to Sycamore Gap, then onto the end of Peel Crags. This section of the walk involves several steep slopes, with some spectacular views. The return route via Vindolanda is mainly along quiet tarmac roads, with only a few gentle slopes.
Although the walk is circular and therefore can be done in either direction, I would recommend doing the section along the wall first, as this requires the most energy.
