Parking just outside the reserve, the path crosses the railway and continues on to pass by the southern end of Attenborough Village. The lagoons of broad water will then be passed on both sides. Many different kinds of birdlife will be seen, from swans and Canada geese to moorhens and lesser-known varieties. The views are a photographer's delight.

Then a stroll along the River Trent is taken to watch barges passing by. Eventually the path brings you back to the Reserve car park. (You may park here if you wish, but it is a pay and display area). On the west side is the ultra modern and not very picturesque, Visitor Centre. However, the cafe is first class, with large windows where the ducks etc can be watched whilst you partake of a cuppa and a cake, if needed and lounging in the comfortable settees.

The return journey is started from the car park and passes a very scenic view of Attenborough Church. The route finishes with a stretch along the River Trent and a return to the car.

Walked 1st September, 2011. Clear blue skies, lots of wildlife, a thoroughly enjoyable, easy walk. Note the excellent, wide, surfaced paths are shared by walkers, dog walkers and cyclists. At the time of my walk the section of path from waymark 1 next to the railway is being improved, is closed off but due to reopen soon. The cross-paths from 2 across to the Trent and between 4 and 5 are due to close shortly for a short time for "tree works". The paths at the southern end have been greatly improved.....just follow it : no need now to go under the pylons (9/10).

I did this walk on 08/03/11. Another brilliant walk, with lots of interest, - scenery, lagoons, river, and most of all amazing bird life. Lots of improvements have been done and so, the paths are wide, clearly marked and easy for wheelchairs and buggies. Instructions are clear and very easy to follow. At present lots of flood defence work is in progress around the Attenborough village and some paths are closed or diverted but lots of signs mean you can work your way around them. You can see my photos of the walk at : https://picasaweb.google.com/mistrymangal/Copy2OfCopyOfMyPics000367Walk3390AttenboroughNatureReserve080311# Following may help: At point 1 – Here, part of the ‘Meadow Lane’ is closed so walk up to River Trent, turn right and a bit further down turn right again to join up with Meadow lane. Point 6 – I found that, now, paths beyond point 6 are OK for wheel chairs and buggies. Improvements and new crossings have been created. Point 7 – I never did find point 7, but now, there is a wide path and a footbridge which will take you across to the path near point 10. See my photos, with a sign ‘Trent Valley Greenway Attenborough Loop’ Stretch between points 6 and 14 – I think this area is brilliant. There are hides and screens to observe birds and wild life and really stunning lagoons with reed beds. (See my photos). Well worth taking a diversion, - don’t miss it.
