River Averon Walk

This walk is at Alness, in Easter Ross. It follows the east bank of the river (which is sometimes called the River Alness) northwards and returns to Alness by the west bank. Some lovely pools are on the river... it's well-known for its salmon fishing. The walk starts and finishes in Alness, where information, refreshments and toilets are available; golf too. Dogs are welcome on the walk.
The first few metres are on a road, but soon the route dives down to the river to follow the edge of one of the holes on the golf course. After crossing a bridge the path continues along the river, passing delightful pools beloved of anglers when the river is high and offering paddling and bathing pools when low. At the far end of the walk there is a pleasant grassy picnic area beside a pool. Paths are good (a few muddy bits), mainly in open woodland. Boots are not really necessary on this pleasant family walk.
