The walk starts at the Polmuir Road entrance of Duthie Park in Aberdeen.

Although it is a one-way walk, it passes through a variety of scenery along well-laid-out paths. To begin, it travels through built-up areas, overlooking the back gardens of houses, but soon forms a green artery out of the city where extra trees have been planted to improve the amenity. A very popular walk for dog lovers, it continues past larger properties in the more affluent suburbs. Although never far from a main road, it is a very tranquil walk which also has some picturesque views over open countryside. Nearer Peterculter (or Culter, as it is called locally), there are also some fine views over the River Dee, which flows by the track near the end. To return to Aberdeen it is a short walk from the old railway route to the A93, which is served by a regular bus service.
