Chipping: The Creamy Lancashire Cheese Walk

This is a very flat walk to the south of Chipping through pleasant sheep pastures. There are fewer stiles than is usual in the Ribble Valley and the route is well-signposted, with good views of the nearby southern fells of Bowland. The eccentric title is because this is a walk sponsored by the Leagram Organic Dairy. This can be visited but, unfortunately,not at weekends. The walk will be a litle shorter if you do not go to the dairy. It also goes past the entrance to the Gibbon Bridge Hotel, a rather classy establishment and I'm not sure how they'd react to walking-gear. In their favour they have a well-signposted public footpath going right past the main entrance and they have never tried for a diversion.

We did this walk 2 weeks ago with 2 dogs. There was a lot of livestock so the dogs were on the lead most of the time. We had to lift the smaller dog over a couple of the stiles but other than that had no problems. Through the farmyard there were 2 dogs, one loose and one chained up, but the farmer came out and assured us it was ok (very friendly)and encouraged us to make a fuss of them so they got used to walkers as their previous dog wasn't keen!

Did this walk again on a lovely, warm day. At waypoint 12 there were three dogs; two chained but we still had difficulty passing them - rather intimidating - one smaller without a chain but he was okay. There was no sign of the post near the tree but a glance left will show the first gate with the distinctive yellow arrow on it. No 'caution children' sign now at waypoint 15 (maybe they have grown up!) and the gate was wide open.

We have walked this area when it has been horrendously muddy and there was evidence of this today but all the mud was now frozen!! Beautiful short walk with the first snow (in our area) of the month. Very easy to follow.
