Starting from the centre of Hartford, after a short suburban section the route passes through a local nature reserve in a steep-sided wooded valley with anemones, bluebells and wild garlic in season. Meeting the River Weaver, there are reedbeds with water birds. After crossing a new bridge and doubling back on the other side of the river, you might see kingfishers or peregrines along the more peaceful stretches.

Really enjoyed this walk on Sunday, 24 July 2016. The cafe at Waymark 11 is excellent. At Waymark 17, instead of turning left and going up the steep path, you can carry on to the A556 if you like and then turn left towards the traffic lights. Just an extra 5 minutes but it's on the flat.

New! Improved! Now with cafe and better surface. Between WP11 and WP12 there is now a cafe, signed from the path. It is in the residents lounge of a block of retirement flats so people there may appreciate a chat. See http://www.riversidecafecheshire.co.uk/menu.shtml for details. Also, the stretch from WP13 to WP14 now has a better surface, so unless it is very wet, you stand a chance of doing this walk in shoes rather than boots.
