This is a lovely little walk around Pilson Green and the surrounding nature reserve, with an optional extra towards the end to walk down to Upton Broad. The walk begins just a stone's throw from South Walsham Broad and follows a trackway past some beautiful thatched cottages, before crossing fields and following quiet country lanes round to the edge of Upton Fen Nature Reserve. The footpath the route follows is just within the reserve and woodlands, so keep an eye out for all the wildlife in the area!
Just as you near one of the many farms in the area there is an optional detour through Upton Fen Nature Reserve which I would highly recommend if time allows; there is a viewing platform on the west side of the broad and also the opportunity to see more wildlife. Once you have left the reserve the route follows a quiet country lane to join a trackway along the edge of the marshes. There is again more opportunity for spotting wildlife across this area, especially birds like marsh harriers.
