Starting off by the staithe in Thurne, the first part of this walk follows the Weavers Way Long Distance Path to the south and then to the east. The route joins a country lane past Clippesby Hall, a five-star holiday park and beautiful place to stay if you enjoy holidaying in Norfolk. At the end of the road and after crossing a B-road the route joins a public footpath that zigzags its way north almost as far as Rollesby and then cuts back on itself towards Heath Farm. The reason for this out of the way section is the superb view west on the gentle descent from Heath Farm towards Ashby. The path is about 70ft above the surrounding countryside and the views extend many miles west and north. On a clear day look to the north and you will see Bacton Gas Terminal and the red and white striped Happisburgh Lighthouse about ten miles away! The last part back to Thurne is simple and straightforward, following country lanes and footpaths through Home Farm and back to the staithe. If time allows, a short stroll from the car park down the dyke to the white Thurne Mill is worth it! The mill was constructed in 1820 and has been well restored. Lovely walk with loads of variety in terrain and scenery. Just one note - at point 11 we crossed the road (village sign currently missing) but found the right of way had been ploughed and sown. We didn't walk thru the crop but used the tractor tracks up the side of the field. Have reported this at the little Ramblers shop in Thurne - apparently somebody checks the walk twice a year, so worth telling them of any problems. Great walk though, thanks Joe Jackson.
