Although only short, this walk explores a lovely area of the Norfolk Broads to the north of Upton. The first stretch follows the north side of Upton Dyke and then a section of the River Bure. Do keep a keen eye on the marshes to the left and the river on the right, as some amazing birds can be seen in this area and otters have been spotted playing in the river too! On the other side of the river, just over halfway down the Bure is Oby Drainage Mill. The mill is quite old, having been built in 1733 (the date is set into the tower). Further along the path the route passes under Tall Mill Drainage Mill. This mill was built in 1800 with a mill-keeper's cottage just behind, which appears to be derelict.

The next section heads into the main village, passing the lovely White Horse pub which serves food and drinks at set times throughout the day. The route comes out at the south side of the village and follows a lovely footpath through the reeds and trees back to the staithe; great diversity for such a short walk.

A great evening walk in the Summer, when there's lots of birdlife including the occasional owl to be seen. The boating activity on the river adds to, rather than detracts from the interest.
