Tewkesbury - Forthampton - Tewkesbury

Tewkesbury is a historic town dominated by timber-framed buildings with overhanging eaves, located at the meeting point of the Rivers Severn and Avon. The walk heads out of the town, crossing the River Avon and then following the riverside path along the Rivers Avon and Severn to the Mythe Bridge, a cast-iron bridge designed by Thomas Telford and built in 1826. After crossing the bridge, the walk then heads back towards Tewkesbury from the opposite bank, passing around the Severn Ham, a large area of common, flat land that separates Tewkesbury from the river. The town itself, dominated by its abbey, can be seen in the distance while walking along here. After passing a weir and lock, the walk continues to the end of the Severn Ham and then heads away from the river to Forthampton, a quiet village with thatched cottages, several duck-ponds and a church.
